Etsymini 101: Livejournal & Blogger

Ok back to the Etsyminis.

Myspace is the the biggest pain in the rear when it comes to the Etsyminis, Livejournal is not so bad, and Blogger is by far the easiest to work with!

On Livejournal I use a bigger EtsyMini because the average page format is much wider. Also there are communities solely for selling so the size won't much matter unless you're hogging 1/2 the page :p
Now LJ is finicky, so this may not always work correctly but it's a 100x better than what you will get than just copy&pasting from Etsy. Also the ones Etsy gives you will show up in Firefox but not IE!

Ok below is for a 4 column, 4 row Etsymini for LJ.:

<center><lj-embed id="4">
<center><object height="374" width="374" data="http://www.etsy.com/flash/spots/etsy_mini.swf?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE&user_name=SHOP NAME GOES HERE&item_source=shop&item_size=thumbnail&rows=4&columns=4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param height="400" width="374" value="http://www.etsy.com/flash/spots/etsy_mini.swf?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE&user_name=SHOP NAME GOES HERE&item_source=shop&item_size=thumbnail&rows=4&columns=4" name="movie" /></object><br /><a style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; color:#0192B5; text-decoration: none;" href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE">Etsy<br />Buy Handmade<br /><b><u>SHOP NAME GOES HERE</u></b></a></center>
</lj-embed></center>

If you like using the "Gallery" type Etsymini here's a 1 column, 3 row version for LJ to get you started:

<center><lj-embed id="2">
<center><object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.etsy.com/flash/spots/etsy_mini.swf?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE&user_name=SHOP NAME GOES HERE&item_source=shop&item_size=gallery&rows=3&columns=1" width="170" height="546"><param name="movie" value="http://www.etsy.com/flash/spots/etsy_mini.swf?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE&user_name=SHOP NAME GOES HERE&item_source=shop&item_size=gallery&rows=3&columns=1" width="170" height="600" /></object><br><a style="color:#D35701; font-size: 14px; text-decoration: none; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:bold" href="http://SHOP NAME GOES HERE.etsy.com">Etsy: Your place to buy & sell all things handmade</a><br><a style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; color:#0192B5; text-decoration: none;" href="http://SHOP NAME GOES HERE.etsy.com">SHOP NAME GOES HERE.etsy.com</a></center>
</lj-embed></center>

Blogger is a similar situation to LJ. A 5 column Etsymini on Blogger is generally too wide, go with a 4x4 if you want to go big. But the good thing is you can copy&paste straight from Etsy ~or~ you can use the LJ version above just fine!

FAQ:
Where do I find my shop #?
Go to your Etsy shop page. Look at the url. See the string of #s at the end of it? That is your shop #.

What is my shop name?
It is just your user name alone, for example:
www.SWStitchery.Etsy.com = no cookie for you.
SWStitchery.Etsy.com = try again, please.
SWStitchery = correct!

How do I get rid of those damnable scroll bars on LJ?
If you make an Etsymini in a larger size, to get rid of scroll bars on LJ increase the param height by +25 (or more if needed) & width by +10 (or more if needed) compared to the object height & width. Don't forget to embed the whole shabang or all your formatting will be for nothing.
Nerd notes:
The "param" html may look redundant, and you can see an Etsymini without it if you use Firefox, but it will not be viewable in IE (it'll be a big white box) & you will get scroll bars on LJ.
Sneaky tip:
Copy&paste the above html into Notepad on your computer, fill in all your info and save it to your desktop! Now it's nice and handy anytime you need an Etsymini :)

Try it out and have fun posting! xx~Static
