Birthdaymas

If you're a late Fall/Winter baby you understand the word "Birthdaymas". My birthday being in late September my mom would sometimes combine my birthday & Christmas presents. I'm not complaining mind you because it always turned out to be a nice big present! Anywho, the point of this rambling is I've actually decided well ahead of Birthdaymas time that at the top of my list are pretty underthings & a new bed. I'll even pass on the underthings for a new bed. Seriously we need a new bed. If I have to pad over and repair the mattress because of another broken spring I'm gonna scream. Yes, it's that old. And after looking at and comparing mattress/boxspring prices plus a new bedframe... and of course I'd like a matching set. Yeah, ouch. I would love to have this in black or deep red:

But unfortunately that would likely be considered the bestest scratching post in da whole world for teh kitties with the leather head & foot board. Nevermind the price! I'd happily "settle" for something like this, preferably a King size!:

A girl can dream.

More realistically here are a few of my Etsy favorites...

Etsy
Buy Handmade
SWStitchery

And there's always my Amazon Wishlists: Misc, Books, CDs, Movies
Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, you know what I mean? A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat, Ayy? Ayy!

Etsymini 101: Livejournal & Blogger

Ok back to the Etsyminis.

Myspace is the the biggest pain in the rear when it comes to the Etsyminis, Livejournal is not so bad, and Blogger is by far the easiest to work with!

On Livejournal I use a bigger EtsyMini because the average page format is much wider. Also there are communities solely for selling so the size won't much matter unless you're hogging 1/2 the page :p
Now LJ is finicky, so this may not always work correctly but it's a 100x better than what you will get than just copy&pasting from Etsy. Also the ones Etsy gives you will show up in Firefox but not IE!

Ok below is for a 4 column, 4 row Etsymini for LJ.:

<center><lj-embed id="4">
<center><object height="374" width="374" data="http://www.etsy.com/flash/spots/etsy_mini.swf?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE&user_name=SHOP NAME GOES HERE&item_source=shop&item_size=thumbnail&rows=4&columns=4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param height="400" width="374" value="http://www.etsy.com/flash/spots/etsy_mini.swf?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE&user_name=SHOP NAME GOES HERE&item_source=shop&item_size=thumbnail&rows=4&columns=4" name="movie" /></object><br /><a style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; color:#0192B5; text-decoration: none;" href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE">Etsy<br />Buy Handmade<br /><b><u>SHOP NAME GOES HERE</u></b></a></center>
</lj-embed></center>

If you like using the "Gallery" type Etsymini here's a 1 column, 3 row version for LJ to get you started:

<center><lj-embed id="2">
<center><object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.etsy.com/flash/spots/etsy_mini.swf?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE&user_name=SHOP NAME GOES HERE&item_source=shop&item_size=gallery&rows=3&columns=1" width="170" height="546"><param name="movie" value="http://www.etsy.com/flash/spots/etsy_mini.swf?user_id=SHOP ID # GOES HERE&user_name=SHOP NAME GOES HERE&item_source=shop&item_size=gallery&rows=3&columns=1" width="170" height="600" /></object><br><a style="color:#D35701; font-size: 14px; text-decoration: none; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight:bold" href="http://SHOP NAME GOES HERE.etsy.com">Etsy: Your place to buy & sell all things handmade</a><br><a style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; color:#0192B5; text-decoration: none;" href="http://SHOP NAME GOES HERE.etsy.com">SHOP NAME GOES HERE.etsy.com</a></center>
</lj-embed></center>

♦♦♦♦    ♦♦♦♦    ♦♦♦♦    ♦♦♦♦

Blogger is a similar situation to LJ. A 5 column Etsymini on Blogger is generally too wide, go with a 4x4 if you want to go big. But the good thing is you can copy&paste straight from Etsy ~or~ you can use the LJ version above just fine!

FAQ:
Where do I find my shop #?
Go to your Etsy shop page. Look at the url. See the string of #s at the end of it? That is your shop #.

What is my shop name?
It is just your user name alone, for example:
www.SWStitchery.Etsy.com = no cookie for you.
SWStitchery.Etsy.com = try again, please.
SWStitchery = correct!

How do I get rid of those damnable scroll bars on LJ?
If you make an Etsymini in a larger size, to get rid of scroll bars on LJ increase the param height by +25 (or more if needed) & width by +10 (or more if needed) compared to the object height & width. Don't forget to embed the whole shabang or all your formatting will be for nothing.
Nerd notes:
The "param" html may look redundant, and you can see an Etsymini without it if you use Firefox, but it will not be viewable in IE (it'll be a big white box) & you will get scroll bars on LJ.
Sneaky tip:
Copy&paste the above html into Notepad on your computer, fill in all your info and save it to your desktop! Now it's nice and handy anytime you need an Etsymini :)

Try it out and have fun posting! xx~Static

Etsymini 101: Myspace

Update! Myspace has stirred up their html again. What worked at the end of July no longer works (surprise, surprise) so I have made some changes/additions.

For the most current (June 2011) Etsymini code that works in the new Myspace Layout please see here. Thanks!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello my lovelies, here is something I wrote up to help out my team mates on the EtsyDarkTeam and now I thought I'd share one of my posting sekrits here. Just a couple of the many things I do to try to keep my posts consistent and neat looking. By no means is this a "must do" for you. I just thought I'd put these up for those of you who are as... particular, yeah particular, as I am about it ;)

I'm sure you've noticed that some blogs do not like Etsyminis, they eat the formatting. Here is a flash/html combo for a clean looking Etsymini on Myspace! Etsyminis on LJ & Blogger will be in another post.
Note: Areas you need to replace with your shop info is in red & CAPS.

Myspace Comments/Bulletins:
This is for a 3 Rows, 2 Columns Etsymini on Myspace which is good since the comment space from page to page varies greatly and you don't want to inadvertently wonk someone's page formatting! They'll likely delete your post. And in good form, say hello, tell them their stuff is cool, something, anything before just slapping up a personal ad. It's more likely to get you noticed & appreciated rather than just another number on the "friend" list. At least, that's my opinion ;):

The above doesn't work well in the page layouts. These do...

Scrap Bats™ - Poinsettia, OOAK collectible bat doll

This sweetie's name is Poinsettia and is a distant cousin of Incencio's (the last Scrap Bat™ that was adopted). So again a bit of Honduran White Bat, some Striped-Faced Fruit Bat and maybe a bit of Red Bat for good measure? Who truly knows? I don't speak Bat all too well so I may have misunderstood here or there ;)

Gears Tie - OOAK applique vintage zipper neck tie recycle

Ties are such a pain to tie, so why bother? Here's a steampunked zipper tie to ease your woes.

I have cut and layered each gear in detail by hand --6 pcs per gear!-- out of Gold & Black Brocade and patiently top stitched every piece. No embroidery machine was used in the creation of this tie!

♦ The tie is a vintage 80s tie.
♦ Permanent knot.
♦ Built in zipper for easy on/off.
♦ Satin, grey-green in color, with a small subtle box design (Shocking, I know. It is from the 80s after all.)

See listing for more info. No US shipping charge!
