Apocaly-post 2012

Huh, would you look at that, we are still here! It's been a bit since my last post but I was busy with the holiday rush, which is a good thing. Lots of made-to-order. Cthulhu and Krampus ornaments were pretty popular this year! Also, I had family prezzies to get done in amongst the orders:

PrincessCrowns2
Hand stitched princess crowns for the nieces,

FabricBasket-Aiko1
fabric baskets (this is just one of a half dozen),

YetiFoot-Lenny2
and even a Yeti Foot [sorry, Darien, I only got in one & it went to my uncle], among other things!

No rest for the wicked though, I still have plenty to get started for the new year. So many ideas, so little time.

I hope you have a Happy Howlidays and a fangtastic New Year!!

Cinnamon-free Pumpkin Muffin Recipe

I will have something fun to share with you on Monday but to tide you over here is something completely different...

I love Autumn and Winter with all the pumkin-y goodness but guess what? I can't have most of it because the mass amounts of cinnamon gives me migraines. Cinnamon is a trigger for some of us migraine sufferers, which sucks because it is delicious. Alas, it is my nemesis. As is citrus. Evil, evil citrus. What's worse is I'll go so long without having either that I forget (yes, forget) to check for them, and then, wham! Migraine.

Anywho, I'd like to share my version of a Pumpkin Muffin recipe with you. Mmmm, Pumkin Muffin. I can eat these until I'm rolling on the floor like a flipped over turtle. The only discomfort being my waistband digging into my full belly.

PumkinMuffinNoCin

Cinnamon-free Pumpkin Muffins

Yield: 12 regular muffins

1 cup canned solid-pack pumpkin
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
2 tsp faux vanilla extract (or 1 tsp real vanilla extract)
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Put liners in 12 muffin cups.
Small mixing bowl - Whisk together all dry ingredients.
Large mixing bowl - Whisk together with a fork: pumpkin, oil, and eggs just until smooth.
Fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
Divide batter among the 12 muffin cups.
Bake until puffed and wooden pick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean, apx 22-25 minutes.
Let the muffins cool in the pan on a rack for a few minutes (especially if you use foil liners, yowch!), transfer muffins to cooling rack. Enjoy!

They are delicious plain or you can make them more of a dessert and frost them. Cream Cheese Frosting is a favorite. xx

PS - I created the pic in Photoshop, if you haven't guessed they don't actually look like that. The last batch of real Pumpkin Muffins disappeared before I remembered the camera :D

Busy Batling

Apparently this busy Batling has been too busy to update her blog! Which is odd because I don't feel like I've been getting a whole lot done but then I look back and, huh, look at that, I did.

A dreaded birthday was last week. A handful of projects that were in the talking/thinking phase shifted into the "get sewing, biotch!" phase. I've kept up with the custom orders along with these other projects so it must be the birthday putting the fog in my brain.

Yeah... I'm determined to get past this draggin'-ass --Not to be confused with "dragon ass", I don't have a tail. Yet.-- feeling today!

Here's my current, slightly chaotic view:

CraftyClutter1

In the back is a bag of batting, a canvas bag stuffed full of felt. Then a box of finished small projects, a spool of tulle (where's the purple one?!), tools of the trade, ribbon and beads. Trash bag in the middle for tidiness, as much as can be had anyway. In-progress headbands, fabric waiting to be transformed, fabric and more fabric. Never mind what I still need to retrieve from my workroom.

Well, I'm off and hopefully my next update won't be so far away!

Nobbes is Looking for His Buddy

Nobbes, is cousin to that awesome sidekick to that Cal kid, Hobbes. Nobbes is apx 22 inches tall not including his 10 inch tail. The perfect size to go on "imaginary" adventures with you!

His body is made of snuggly Orange and White Fleece, with a bit of Black Fleece for the ears and end of tail. His stripes, eyes and nose are made of soft, Black synthetic Felt which are **completely hand stitched** onto his body. Extreme care was taken to line up those stripes just right.

Once he's gone, he's gone, no custom requests will be taken on this plush. More info & pics here <--click link.

Dahlias and Roses and Wachoo! Oh my.

I've been working on lots of flowers this week. These won't be making it to my shop, they're all commissioned/gifted pieces.

I only meant to make one Dahlia but wound up with two thanks to a small measurement mishap. It thankfully didn't ruin the first one but it did make it too big for my project so I had to put it aside temporarily. Here's the proper sized, first completed (second started) Dahlia in action:

Can you believe 40 petals on that flower? All hand cut and rolled by your truly.

The box is a repurposed (4) mug box so it's nice and sturdy. I left the bottom alone with it's polkadotted paper but painted and then recovered the lid in Beige Linen. To break up the Beige-ness on the lid, and have something to attach the Dahlia Pin to, I added an Ivory Satin Ribbon down the center. It's not shown in this photo but I'll be lining the box with purple tissue paper. I've also folded wax paper divider boxes because this box is soon to be full of tea and homemade cookies! Nom.

I don't have a pic of the other Dahlia finished yet but there is one of it 2/3 complete with Tiger Buddy plus another pic of the Roses I'm working on on my Facebook page.

June Reversible Headbands

What a distracting month it's been! Anywho, a couple of previous styles have been relisted but here are the new styles of reversible headbands for this month. Loving the turquoise fabric! If you didn't notice ;)

Headbands7

Bottom L: Mirage Oasis, R: Chinese Flowers

As always custom requests on the headbands are welcome if you see two fabric I have that you would like together.

All right back to work for me, I've still got a lot of hand stitching of Hobbes-like stripes to finish(?) today. There's a progress photo of this on my FB page here.

Why am I up so early?

The answer is the cats are out to get me. No, really, they are! *Looks around nervously* Whew, they're sleeping. For now.

Since I'm awake I thought I'd show you a couple things from my perspective. First thing in the morning...

POVSleepySeamstress1
That cup is full of delicious manna (coffee). Notice how nothing can be focused on until that nectar of the gods has been consumed? Powerful stuff. The tilt of the photo is due to my face being strongly attracted to the table top. The attractions wears off after awhile so no cause for alarm.

After a few sips of manna I was able to take a few more snaps. Here's the amazingly bright turquoise fabric I mentioned on FB along with some combos I'm probably going to go with for headbands (top matching to bottom).

You like?

Headband-SampleColors1

And, last but not least, a pulled back view of what my kitchen table looks like when no one can hear me scream...

FabricMess1
See that? Poor Hobbes won't even look.

Well, I'm off for more manna and then hopefully I'll work on my Tiger Buddy there for a bit -- I can only work on him a little at time for fear of hand cramps-- and then stitch up those headbands as a breather from His Stripeyness.

Chibi Jonny for Erin

The awesome artist/writer lurking behind the e-shop Somnambulant and the Oh Honestly, Erin blog asked if I could make her a Jonny Craig chibi doll.

Now, if you're a reader of Oh Honestly, Erin you know how much her babydaddy, Henry, loathes all mention of Jonny Craig. Who would pass up a chance to help further the annoyance of Henry and create a plush of the soulless ginger crooner? Not I, challenge accepted!

So it begins...

Oooh, he's nekkid! Good thing he's a smoothie. The doll, not the person. Well, I don't personally know about the person so let's just roll with the assumption that he does in fact have genitals. Moving on!

Finally got some pants on the guy!

The face has a dermal implant under one eye -- I literally made a dermal for the doll out of a flathead straight pin which announced it disapproval of being bent all to hell by stabbing me repeatedly until I wizened up enough to cut the pointy part off. Genius, I tell ya.
There's a teardrop and heart (embroidered) tattoo under the other eye. To give you an idea of scale, the teardrop is just under a 1/4" in height. Tiny!

And, finally, what you've been waiting for with bated breath...

The finished chibi Jonny Craig doll! (You thought I was going to make you wait, didn't you?) He's happy to finally have his clothes on and head attached. Now he's just chillin' waiting for his lady to take him home.

Chester, an Easter Bunny

Wow, just... wow. I received Chester from DARK Alley on Friday and he is amazing! I still can't believe I won this fantastic art doll in her recent Easter giveaway and he's right here in my hands. This is one clown I can handle (it's those creepy B&B type ones I don't like and, yes, those are creepy).

Image ©Veronika Lozovaya

Chester looks rather mischievous and I'm quite sure he'll sneak up on a visitor or two with a tap on the shoulder and a quiet "Boo". He's currently high up on our entertainment center where everyone can see him, but our kitties can't get to him, whispering with my Zombigurumi. I'm sure he'll be taunting the kitties in no time.

Thanks again to Veronika Lozovaya, creator of DARK Alley art dolls, for this amazing gift!

Static the Zombigurumi

I did a trade a while ago with the lovely Dr. Igora Fauxbia, of the Zombigurumi Love Lab. Now I know what I will look like if I ever become zombified! Sorry I don't have a full body picture but my workroom has been a disaster until recently and I just couldn't wait any longer to post about my Zombigurumi.

Image ©Zombigurumi

Some of the details might not be obvious at first glance, but believe me, they are just perfect. Dr. Fauxbia got my curly black hair obviously but my nose ring, double labret (in silver thread, no less) and black plugs are there too. Love it! The dangling eyeball and scratches are such a great touch.

Thanks again for the trade, Dr. Fauxbia!

2012, who knew?

Well, here we are. *Looks around* Mm hmm.

I don't have anything spectacular planned just yet. No ground trembling New Year's resolutions. I guess I'm just fed up and tired of disappointments. These last couple years have sucked mainly due to the down-turned economy. Not to say I'm giving up. Oh no, no, my dearies, not at all. I just figure if I don't have massively high expectations then I won't be devastated when something doesn't go the way I planned. Right? Sounds reasonable, I think. I am trying to be realistic here. Maybe it's just tax time blues. I did make less this past year than the year before, and that wasn't much to begin with. 2011 generally kind of sucked all around. I'm not going to go into detail but some things were salvageable and many not so much. 2011, year of the MEH.

Although, with me being a tad maudlin and all, I must say that I do have the most fantastically supportive and wonderful husband. If not for him I'd probably still be unloading trucks and (unsuccessfully) dealing with large crowds in soul-sucking retail hell. He keeps me reasonably sane, somewhat-willingly warms my feet, replies with "the eyebrow" to any outburst I may or may not have, makes me tea, and supports any and all artistic or educational endeavors. No, you can't have him. I do not share well with others. Mine! It still amazes me he's put up with my special brand of nuttiness (I'm an artist, it can't be helped and it's not necessarily a bad thing) for 9 years. NINE! Wow. So there, there's something good. Here's to 2012 being better! Hopefully.

Well, off I go. I've got some headbands to list. They're remakes of past styles but, as always, super cute! New styles will come as soon as I can afford a fabric run.

xx & hope your New Year is off to an awesome start! ~Static
